COBURG HIGH SCHOOL HISTORICAL GROUP

PicturePhoto by Laurie Birchall courtesy State Library of Victoria
This site is owned and managed by the Coburg High School Historical Group on behalf of all ex students and staff of the school which was located in Bell St Coburg from 1916 till 1993 and at the old RMIT Teachers  College site until its closure in 2004
The purpose of this site is to enable all interested parties to keep in touch with old friends and fellow students . We also hope it will inform current students of the new Coburg High School of the wonderful history that they now share.

The new Coburg High School now houses a large collection of memorabilia from the original school. This was collected, or in many cases rescued, by a dedicated group of ex-students who were determined not to let the past be forgotten.
Click on this link   H.P.BENNETT CENTRE      to get the full story of who they were and what they did.
On behalf of all Coburg High Alumni, your Historical Group have worked with School Principal Stewart Milner to send a video message of encouragement and support to the  current year twelve students. These young people have had to tackle their most important school year under incredibly difficult circumstances. The message was sent out via the school twitter account and was was very well received.

We were planning to celebrate our 105th anniversary in October 2021, but Covid-19 put a stop to that.
This short video was created by the Historical Group as a reminder of what the early days were like.

Update on the old Bell St Site
The current ownership and plans for this site is unknown.

The council requires the developer to include significant recognition of the history of the site at the developer's cost.
Your Historical Group have been very active in the planning of this and will ensure that the new owner of this site is aware of this requirement and work with them to make sure our old school is never forgotten.
