OCTOBER 2021 NEWS LETTER

Picture

We hope you are all well and safe during these difficult times. Just a reminder that our 105 year celebration has been postponed due to Covid-19 restrictions, but we hope to find another opportunity to catch up
with old friends in the near future.

A big thankyou to all those who responded to our call for assistance in the last newsletter. One of our ex-students from the 1950's sent a cheque for $500 for the School library.
A wonderful gift and very much appreciated.

We are constantly looking for past students who have made significant contributions to public life or have had remarkable careers. The list contains some remarkable people. We recently added Jack Emmins [1937 stream] to our Notable Past Students page. Jack rose from apprentice to Chief Engineer at Victorian Railways supervising a staff of 3000.
The other new addition is Sasha Grishin AM  [1962 stream] who has gained international recognition for his work as an academic, art historian, author and art critic.

They each acknowledge the value of their experience as a student at CHS.
No doubt there are many more we have missed and if you have suggestions for this page or the Honours page we would appreciate your input.

If you like a bit of old school history, check out the home page of our Historical  website  coburghighhistorical.org  and play the "We went to Coburg High" video.
It's a bit of nostalgia; made with old photos from our archives.  While you're watching it, see if you can work out where exactly that football match was played.

The other question it throws up is where did the gun disappear to? It was given to the school after World War 1, but was gone by World War 2. See the article under "Facts from our Files" on the website. Any further information would be appreciated.
For those of you who haven't had a chance to visit the new Coburg High School, here is a photo of the entrance sign  sitting on a bed of Pentridge bluestones. We used this as the closing scene of our video.
For more information about the  new school visit their website www.coburg.vic.edu.au
