NEWSLETTER SEPTEMBER 2017
Past Students and Staff Association (PSASA)
Coburg High School Historical Group, Inc
Newsletter …. SEPTEMBER 2017
This is just a quick newsletter to bring you up to date on our activities. We believe that some may not have received the last newsletter in March of this year while others may have received it twice – by email and in the post. We apologise for this but it was due to circumstances beyond our control. If you have not seen the March newsletter, it is on our web-site.
Loyal in All – the Centenary of Coburg High School
Our book has been entered in the 2017 Victorian Community History Awards competition run by the Royal Historical Society of Victoria with the results to be announced at a ceremony on Monday 16th October. Our book will then be added to the Society’s collection and listed on their website with a brief summary of the contents. We will be represented at the ceremony and are hopeful of a positive result.
Memorabilia
The many photos and items of memorabilia that were donated are being catalogued and stored appropriately in our archives. Thanks again to those donors.
School Banners and Houses
The School banner and House banners are currently being re-furbished by the Embroiders Guild and we are hopeful that they will be used by the school as they re-establish the House system. The school is seeking suggestions of names reflecting the past history of the school or the local community for their houses.
Membership
As a member of CHSHG you will contribute towards our activities in preserving our history and memorabilia. Annual membership is $10 or Life membership $100. A reminder to Annual members that your membership is now due and can be paid by cheque posted to Coburg High School Historical Group or deposited directly into our Bank A/c as detailed below. Please use “Membership” and your name as the reference. Others can join using either method.
Web-site Reminiscences
We are about to add a section entitled “Reminiscences” to our web-site and would like to hear stories from your days at CHS. They can be as long or as brief as you like and can be emailed or posted to the addresses listed below. Photos of you then and now would add to the story. Martin is always adding items and photos to the web-site so we suggest you check regularly.
Bell Street Site
We have heard nothing further but remain committed to having the history of the site recognised appropriately.
Bert Hinkler Link
One of our ex-students recently visited the Bert Hinkler Museum in Bundaberg, Queensland, and reported seeing a medallion that had been presented by CHS to Bert Hinkler when he visited the school in 1928. It appears to have been donated to the Museum by someone in South Africa. We will attempt to find out more about the donor. There is mention of this medallion in a 1928 Scribe and we have a photo, taken recently, which will be on our web-site.
